On May 22, 2021, a sudden eruption of Mt. Nyiragongo unexpectedly destroyed hundreds of houses and roads in areas immediately around Goma. The eruptions also destroyed water pipes that provided clean water and separated families from their children who were fleeing the lava running toward the city.
The next day, earthquakes knocked down houses throughout the city, created fissures on the roads and in town, and killed several people. The government issued a mandatory evacuation for areas of the town believed to be at risk of another possible eruption, but without providing a safe haven where to go, food or water while fleeing.

CAMME has been working to reunite more than a dozen children from our community aged from 3-13 years old while communicating with other families and foster families who are also trying to help, and launched an emergency appeal to support these efforts.
The funding raised will go toward helping locate missing CAMME children, fixing damaged houses of CAMME families, and providing food for those that are displaced from their families.
Every donation counts to help them survive this disaster.
Donations can be made directly through the CAMME website, or via our special GoFundMe effort. Everything raised will go to CAMME to help support this emergency effort.
