“What I did on my summer vacation…”
Since the summer of 2015, CAMME and YIA have jointly operated a 1-month summer camp at the CAMME center, hosting not only YIA students and CAMME participants, but also open to children throughout Goma and the surrounding communities. Recognizing that summer vacation is probably the most anticipated part of any child’s year, CAMME operates the camp mostly as a chance for kids to have fun, while also teaching valuable lessons on personal responsibility, gender equity, and empowerment. In 2017 alone, more than 120 children participated in the summer program, and parents have been asking since the beginning of the year about next year’s program.
Facilitators from both CAMME and YIA, as well as international volunteers at the camp lead games, songs, football matches, and arts activities, all with a singular purpose, making sure kids have a happy, productive, and safe summer.
While the children pay limited tuition, this covers only a portion of the camp expenses. Your support helps pay for art supplies, musical instruments, new sports equipment, local teachers, and much more. With your help, CAMME’s summer activities continue to grow every year, and we hope you will consider a tax-deductible contribution today.
